A Newbie’s Life Mini-Menu
- Levels 1-5
- Levels 6-10
This post is a continuation from A Newbie’s Life: Levels 1-5. If you’ve just created a hunter, start there. If you’re a level 5 hunter (or any level for that matter) and you don’t know your Stings from your Aspects, start there. If your idea of attacking an enemy starts with running up to it and using Raptor Strike over and over again, start there. Or choose another class to play. For those of you who have been following along with me and know what’s going on — hooray for you! Let’s keep on learning as we level.
Level 6
Only 4 more levels until the all-important level 10. You’re so close you can taste it! Your bow/gun is your new best friend and what a great friend it is.
Hunter’s Mark - I suppose the best way to describe Hunter’s Mark is as a buff for you that you place on the enemy. It does three things. First, it increase the ranged attack power of any one who attacks that target, increasing the damage done to it ( +20 RAP at this rank). Second, if the enemy tries to stealth or turn invisible, you will still be able to see them. And lastly, the target will appear on your mini-map, regardless of what you’re tracking. This skill is best applied first thing to “mark” the enemy, before you fire a single bullet/arrow.
Arcane Shot - This ability is an instant shot that causes a certain amount of arcane damage to your target. At this ran, it’s calculated at 15% of your
RAP + 15 Arcane damage. Don’t worry about wrapping your head around the math. Just use the spell
Suggested Plan of Attack: Make sure Aspect of the Monkey is on. Cast Hunter’s Mark on the enemy. Start off with a Serpent Sting. Your Auto Shoot will start and continue all by itself. Use as many Arcane Shots as you can before the mob reaches you. Once the mob gets into melee range, use Raptor Strike as often as you can.
Level 8
It’s the home stretch. Questing and grinding may be a little hard from here up to level 10. If you must, don’t be afraid to just kill some lower level mobs to level yourself to level 10, because life is easier with your pet. That doesn’t mean that the WoW gods aren’t giving us a little love at level 8.
Raptor Strike Rank 2 - Going up a rank is like upgrading. In this case, you go from doing +5 damage in rank 1 to +11 damage. More damage is always better when it’s being done on the other guy
Concussive Shot - If only, if only we could get this at level 1. But later is better than never. This spell cuts your enemy’s movement speed in half for 4 seconds, giving you more time to squeeze in some more shots or run for your life. It may not seem like much but it can be the difference between life and death (for you or the mob).
Suggested Plan of Attack: Make sure Aspect of the Monkey is on. Cast Hunter’s Mark on the enemy. Start off with a Concussive Shot, followed by Serpent Sting as soon as you can. Your Auto Shoot will start and continue all by itself. Use as many Arcane Shots as you can before the mob reaches you. Once the mob gets into melee range, use Raptor Strike (new and improved Rank 2!) as often as you can.
Level 10
Hoooooraaaaay! If you made it this far and you’re not cursing at the hunter class (or me), then you like being a hunter. C’mon, admit it. It’s fun. And it gets even better. Because here’s the level where you get your pet. By now, you’re probably sick of hearing me go on and on about them, but you’ll see when you get one. Congrats, by the way. First though, your new skills.
Aspect of the Hawk - We previously encountered Aspect of the Monkey that was basically made for melee. However, Aspect of the Hawk increases your ranged attack power, which means that ranged attack damage goes up. For you number-crunchers, it adds 20 RAP at this rank. Since us hunters are ranged-damage dealers, this aspect proves to be very useful for a lot of levels.
Serpent Sting Rank 2 - This ability now deals 40 nature damage over 15 seconds, as opposed to Rank 1 which dealt 20 nature damage over 15 seconds. Woot for more damage!
Track Humanoids - Similar to Track Beasts, this ability displays any nearby humanoids as little red dots on your mini-map.
Suggested Plan of Attack (Before you get your pet): Make sure Aspect of the Hawk is on. If you like, you can also switch to Aspect of the Monkey for melee combat. An efficient way to do this is to get this macro and hotkey it to something within easy reach, as you’ll be switching between the two aspects a lot.
Conclusion
Now, before you start making your way to level 11, you’ll need your pet. I’ll be spending the next post in this section covering how to get one and the basics of taking care of them. Happy hunting!
