The good news: For the Horde! and Hunters FTW! That’s right, I got them in the mail yesterday right before I ran off to work. When they say that the hoodie is really slim-fitted and really thin fabric, they mean it. I ordered a size that sound have been baggy on me but in reality it fits pretty snuggly with a little bit of room. And the fabrics almost T-shirt thin. But I love it anyways. I’m going to wear it all the time now. I wish I could have gotten the hunter design on the hoodie but no can do. So I basically had to choose between the Alliance one and the Horde one. Let’s face it, the Horde one looks cooler. Sort of gothic in appearance. And the Alliance one just says “Alliance”. Boring! Maybe if they had put “Long live the Alliance” or whatever they say. But even then, which inspires you more? A dignified human stating “Long live the Alliance”, or a gigantic orc roaring “For the Horde!”? I think we all know the answer to that.

The bad news: It’s bloody cold in the ‘Peg these days. Monday during the day, it was -10°C (14°F). For winter here, that’s not cold, that’s practically balmy. Then…the blizzard hit in the evening, bringing the wonderfully frigid air from the Arctic right to us. The temperature dropped to around -30°C (-22°F) and because of the nasty wind, it felt more like -40°C (-40°F). Any exposed skin can freeze within 10 minutes. It wasn’t much warmer yesterday and this morning they said the temperature was -31°C (-23.8°F) and with the wind chill, -47°C (-52.6°F). Exposed skin freezes in less than 5 minutes. We also heard that the kids in my hometown way out in the country didn’t have school today. Why? Several reasons. First of all, almost every one of them have to wait for a school bus to pick them up and some have miles of driveway to walk to get to where they’re picked up. That’s bad. Secondly, school buses tend to freeze up in such cold weather. Imagine 40 kids stuck on a dead, cold bus in the middle of nowhere. That’s also bad. These kids don’t live close to town at all so they just can’t walk to a warm building. Some of them have an hour long bus ride, often riding through areas where there are no houses for miles. So…they had no school. Lucky buggers. I miss those days. Of course the silly city people here don’t get the concept of, you know, not going outside when your freaking skin can freeze in a matter of minutes!

I think there’s a certain dwarf hunter that needs to spend some time in Winnipeg in the winter. He won’t be complaining about f#%&ing 22°C (73°F) when he can’t feel his limbs.

I accept your challenge

Hawk presented an interesting challenge the other day: find some music (WoW-related or not) that’s completely foreign and present it to the blogger community. At least that’s how I interpreted her post.

At first I was going to present a video about didgeridoos but then realized that it’s not the most foreign music that I know or enjoy. So I give you this, fellow bloggers:

Operation Scilohotep

// January 30th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // Random Stuff

So, the other day I’m going through my WordPress.com Blog Stats (love that plugin) and I come across the incoming link from the WoW forums. Hmm, this is interesting. I have this blog in my signature but I rarely visit the forums and even more rarely post something in them. I’m going to go check it out…

What I find is basically a flame war (not the worst one I’ve seen but one nonetheless) and someone has posted a link to my blog right in the middle of it! A character named Drotara…wait a minute, I know that name. A few seconds later, I figure it out…you!

I’m surprised by the whole thing. Not mad or anything, just surprised and a little flattered. After all, I’m not the only hunter blog out there yet he only mentions me. So I get this idea…an idea for a reciprocal surprise …Operation Scilohotep.

Dead Zone is no more on PTR!

// October 20th, 2007 // No Comments » // Hunters and Pets, Random Stuff

I normally don’t talk much about the PTR or patch-related things because I can see that it is thoroughly covered by everyone else. But I share Mania’s enthusiasm about this news:

More exciting to most hunters, however, is the dead zone — or rather, the lack of a dead zone. I honestly didn’t expect this change to make it in so soon, but as of today on the PTR the base range (that is, with no talents) for ranged attacks is now 4-35 yards.

This, I believe, should be a very important point in hunter history. We will longer have that bloody area around us where we can’t do diddley-squat, except maybe watch our pets do all our work for us. I can’t wait for this patch to come out!

Re: Experiment Time!

So, Someone posted the email I wrote him (all spelling errors included…d’oh!) and gave me a place to start in this whole thing. You can read the whole post yourself, as it is pretty long but he did a very thorough job of answering my question.

The game plan is to create a mod that merely collects data, no formulas or charts or anything. That I can all do later.  It will collect info like hunter level, pet level, mob level, length of battle, etc.

I’m hoping it won’t be too terribly complicated. I downloaded Someone’s Focus mod and took a look at the code…now I remember why I don’t like computer programming :) But I will give it my best effort nonetheless.

Once I’m done it, I’m hoping to rope a couple of hunters into using it for me so I don’t have to collect all the data myself…he he he.
