Pet name generator on the way!

Update: The Pet-o-licious Namerator is now here!

I’ve been playing too much WoW since I finished school and now I’m feeling a little burnt out. So it’s time to take a step back for a while and focus on other things. Namely, the pet name generator that I’ve been talking about.

The Flash itself is all done, considering that all I really had to do was to copy and paste from the PANDA name generator :) The biggest part will be getting all the names and putting them into categories. I have two different ideas for this:

  1. A silly and a serious category for each pet family. It may be hard to come up with names for certain categories (nether rays anyone?) and this would also result in a total of 46 categories. However, this would make deciding a name much easier for the visitor and is similar to the way PANDA is set up.
  2. Categories based on the name’s background. Some of the categories would be Chinese names, Japanese names, Aztec names, Greek names, fantasy names, and silly names. This way would probably be easier for me and there would be less categories but I’m not sure if this is what people want.

So…I leave the decision up to you, the people who visit my site! Through this handy little poll below, you can vote as to which one you like. Or if you have a better idea, choose the “Something Else!” option and post your idea in the comments. Comments and questions are also welcome.

Mania redesigned Petopia and it looks fantastic! If you haven’t seen it yet, go check it out now.

I just fixed a coding error in PANDA that wasn’t including the last name in the list of each of the species-genders. It’s amazing how something as small as a minus sign and the number “1″ can affect some code >.>

I also changed the “Suggest a Name or Two” form associated with PANDA so that you can now send your submissions anonymously. Also it confused some people as I received a submission where someone placed the suggested name in the “Your Name” field.

And last but not least, I’d like to thank Melinda for being the first to send in a name suggestion. As a reward, you get 5 barbecued buzzard wings cooked from Zaricotl. Blacky was kind enough to leave those for you so you can thank her :)

New WoW Name Generator

I’ve been working on updating to Wordpress 2.5 (went very smoothly, thanks for asking) and tweaking the new design (like adding Gravatars to the comments). More importantly though is the second part of my project. See, this new design is a school project that where I got to choose what I would do. My instructor wanted me to focus/improve on my Flash skills. So I put those to good use and created my own online PANDA WoW name generator! I’ll tell you, it wasn’t easy but I am happy that I figured it out. The best part is that the names and their categories are completely editable so I can add new names or even species at any time with just a text editor.

So not only can you generate names for your characters but you can also suggest names to be added to the list using the form located beneath the name generator. I’d appreciate any name suggestions and shortly, I will be posting a list of the ones I require the most. If this proves to be popular enough, I may create one for naming pets. Enjoy!

WoW Name Generator

Update: Petoholics Anonymous now has its own online WoW name generator!

I found this awesome tool for picking out character names. Apparently it has thousands of names to choose from, although unfortunately it hasn’t been updated in a long time because it doesn’t even have blood elves or Draenei. And it doesn’t look like the people who made it (Convex Studios) even exist anymore. Nonetheless, I think it’s an extremely useful tool, especially for finding weird names like troll names. I couldn’t find any other tool that had the perfect troll name.

It is an executable that you have to download onto your computer but I ran anti-virus and and anti-spyware scans on it twice before I opened it so it’s clean.
