I normally don’t talk much about the PTR or patch-related things because I can see that it is thoroughly covered by everyone else. But I share Mania’s enthusiasm about this news:
More exciting to most hunters, however, is the dead zone — or rather, the lack of a dead zone. I honestly didn’t expect this change to make it in so soon, but as of today on the PTR the base range (that is, with no talents) for ranged attacks is now 4-35 yards.
This, I believe, should be a very important point in hunter history. We will longer have that bloody area around us where we can’t do diddley-squat, except maybe watch our pets do all our work for us. I can’t wait for this patch to come out!
So, Someone posted the email I wrote him (all spelling errors included…d’oh!) and gave me a place to start in this whole thing. You can read the whole post yourself, as it is pretty long but he did a very thorough job of answering my question.
The game plan is to create a mod that merely collects data, no formulas or charts or anything. That I can all do later. It will collect info like hunter level, pet level, mob level, length of battle, etc.
I’m hoping it won’t be too terribly complicated. I downloaded Someone’s Focus mod and took a look at the code…now I remember why I don’t like computer programming 🙂 But I will give it my best effort nonetheless.
Once I’m done it, I’m hoping to rope a couple of hunters into using it for me so I don’t have to collect all the data myself…he he he.
Or at least it will be once I can actually figure out how to gather the data. What I’m curious about is the factors involving learn pet skills from a beast. Here’s the list of questions I came up with:
Is there a standard rate of time for learning a new skill? Is it affected by the rank of the skill, the level of the pet you’re learning it from, or the level of the hunter? Does pet happiness affect how quickly you will learn it? Is it affected by the level of mobs that the pet is attacking? Do you have to attack that mob as well in order to learn the skill? If you’re learning more than one skill from the pet, does the second skill take the same amount of time for learn?
I’ve already asked Mania, and I just shot off an email to Someone posing the same question. If there’s anyone out there who actually reads this blog 🙂 I would appreciate some ideas. I’ll have to ponder more on it.
Just thinking now, I hope to God that each skill doesn’t have its own variables. That would make collecting data almost impossible.
