Patch 2.4 and Me

26-Mar-08

Knowing that patch 2.4 was coming out yesterday, I headed over to work to update the WoW computers. I do this unpaid but since my boss gives me unlimited free playing time and is a really nice guy, I don’t care. Luckily, the computer that I play on only had 10 MB left to download and was finished in a matter of minutes (thanks to the background downloader). The other 3 (2 computers are out of service, yet something else I need to fix) didn’t have any of the patch downloaded. Even over our T1 line, the estimated time was 80 minutes. Which was fine, because it gave me an opportunity to play 🙂

I updated as many of my addons as I could (which wasn’t many) and then fired WoW up, checking the little “Load Out-of-Date addons” box. Apparently that wasn’t the greatest idea as it froze WoW. Going with only my absolutely-necessary addons, I got into the game with only minor problems and started questing with Nicora.

Then my brilliant boss (I love him but he does have his blond moments) decided that now was a great time to download those free Halo maps into a couple of Xboxes. The T1 line slowed to a crawl, giving me 1.5-2 seconds of lag as I was trying to play and increasing the time it took to download the patch. Instead of taking 80 minutes, it took 2 and a half hours. I was getting frustrated trying to quest with the horrible lag when my brother showed up and we played a couple of songs on Rock Band. Not to toot my own horn but I sang ‘Dani California’ on Expert (the hardest setting) and got 89%. That song is also a blast to sing.

All in all, I only managed to complete 2 quests with Nicora but they were the last ones she needed to do in the Hinterlands so now it’s off to other areas for her. And I still have to get the patch for my laptop and my brother’s computer. >.< That’ll take all night.

Happy Easter!

24-Mar-08

Okay, so it’s after Easter but I was too busy spending time with my family and chowing down on their wonderful home cooking to blog anything. Mmmm…so much good food.

I’ve been working on a portfolio project at school (did I ever mention that I’m taking web design) and for this project, we pretty much get to do whatever we want. So…I’m not only going to create a new theme for this blog from scratch, but I’m also attempting to create an online WoW name generator in Flash, since the majority of my visitors are looking for that. I’ll tell ya, the Flash part is so easy…the ActionScript part is not. I sure hope that I’m able to finish it by the end of the week. The blog theme won’t be as bad, as I just have to slice my Photoshop layout and code using this wonderful step-by-step guide.

WoW-wise…let’s see…Khaja reached level 29 and her ravager is around level 23. I still need a name for him, as well as a screenshot so everyone can see the two of them. Nicora dinged level 55 the other night and in a couple hours, managed to get her Cooking from level 141 to 234. Being my real first character, I didn’t realize how useful cooking could be and so I hadn’t leveled up her cooking at all. It wasn’t too long ago before Nicora’s Cooking was level 1 (she would have burnt water) and in a previous session, I got it up to 141 before I got sick of that and put it off for a little while.

I know that Nicora’s gear is sad to say in the least. I’m not the kind of person who obsesses over PHAT PURPLEZ but I do know that wearing gear that’s 15+ levels lower than you is a bad thing. I’ll have to get her some better gear before she and Blacky venture off into the battlegrounds to get her Black War Wolf. One item that drastically needs replacing is her Master Hunter’s Rifle. And she does have a Highland Bow in her bags…only her Bows skill is 1. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do yet but I need to soon because the battlegrounds are looming over me menacingly.

Is it that obvious?

12-Mar-08

While I was going through my 600-something new items in my Google Reader (see what happens when I go away for a while?) and I came across Pike’s You Know Your Main Is A Hunter When…

It was very amusing, and very true. I feel uncomfortable if the mob gets too close. And what do you mean imps can’t take all those hits? Isn’t it suppose to tank for me? More than once I’ve panicked because I suddenly couldn’t find ant of my up-the-sleeve tricks like Feign Death and freezing trap and OMGIAMDEAD 😛 Oh, do I ever miss tracking when I don’t have it. And yes, I do try to compensate by learning herbalism or mining but it’s just not the same. 🙁 I feel sad and jealous when I see other hunters gallivanting around with their pets and I’m not. And good lord, does it ever bother me when I see a hunter who melees on purpose, doesn’t have a pet, and/or doesn’t feed or teach new skills to their pet.

Of course, this works both ways. As evidence I bring forward the time where I was playing a little druid and Bursthoof was playing a little hunter and we were questing together. It was interesting to watch us play each other’s favorite classes…

Me: What rank of Bite does your wolf have?…What do you mean you don’t know?…Send in your pet first…for pete’s sakes, manage your shots so you don’t take aggro from your pet…DON’T RUN IN THERE AND MELEE IT!
Bursthoof: Hey, you need to buff me again…No, that buff can only be used on you…Spam Moonfire dangit…Heal…HEAL!
Me: What?!
Bursthoof: You’re a druid, you can heal yourself…and me!
Me: …oh yeah. Which is the better healing spell again?
